This medicine is available without prescription. Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your pharmacist. Keep the package leaflet. This also applies to side effects not listed in this leaflet. See section 4. If you do not feel better or even worse, consult your doctor. What is in this leaflet: 1. CONTENTS OF THE PACK AND OTHER INFORMATION 1. WHAT IS CELLUVISC AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR? Celluvisc is a tear substitute and contains the film-forming agent carmellose sodium. It is used for the symptomatic treatment of dry eyes (such as pain, burning, irritation or dryness). If you do not feel better or even worse, consult your doctor. 2. WHAT SHOULD YOU CONSIDER BEFORE USING CELLUVISC? Celluvisc must not be used if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to carmellose sodium or any of the other ingredients listed in section 6. Warnings and precautions: If you wear contact lenses, they should be removed before using Celluvisc. The lenses can be reinserted 15 minutes after applying the drops. Using Celluvisc together with other medicines: Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using other medicines, have recently taken/used any other medicines, or plan to use other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines. If you are using other eye drops, they should be applied at least 15 minutes before instilling Celluvisc. Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Celluvisc can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Driving and using machines: Celluvisc can cause temporary blurred vision, typically lasting 1-15 minutes. If you experience temporary blurred vision, do not drive or operate machinery until your vision is clear again. 3. HOW TO APPLY CELLUVISC? Celluvisc is applied to the eye. Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The usual dose as needed is 1-2 drops of Celluvisc in the affected eyes. Make sure the single-dose container is intact before use. The solution should be applied immediately after opening. Do not let the open end of the single-dose container come into contact with your eye or anything else to avoid contamination or injury to the eye. Wash your hands before use. Separate a single-dose container from the strip. Hold the single-dose container vertically (with the cap upwards) and unscrew the cap. Gently pull down the lower eyelid until a pocket is formed. Hold the single-dose container with the opening downwards and squeeze the container until a drop falls into each eye. Open and close your eyes several times. Do not reuse the single-dose container, even if there is still some solution left. It is very important that you discard the single-dose container and do not store it. If irritation, pain, redness, or changes in vision occur, stop using this medicine and consult your doctor or pharmacist. If you have applied too much Celluvisc: If you have applied too much Celluvisc, there is no danger. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. If you have forgotten to apply Celluvisc: Apply the next dose as needed or at the regular time prescribed by your doctor or pharmacist. Do not apply a double dose if you have forgotten the previous single dose. If you have any further questions on the use of the medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist. 4. WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE POSSIBLE? Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, but not everyone gets them. The following side effects or medically relevant events have been reported during clinical trials: Common side effects (affecting 1 to 10 out of 100 patients) are: eye irritation (including burning and tingling), eye pain, itching of the eyes, visual disturbances. After marketing: The following side effects or medically relevant events have been reported after marketing: Uncommon side effects (affecting 1 to 10 out of 1,000 patients) are: allergic reactions (including the eye or swollen eyelids), blurred vision, increased tearing (tears), sticky eyes, crusting of the eyelid margin and/or residual medication, a foreign body sensation in their eyes, redness of the eye/eyelid, deterioration of visual acuity, superficial eye injury due to contact of the eye with the dropper tip during use. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if any of the listed side effects affect you significantly or if you notice side effects not listed in this leaflet. Reporting of side effects: If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices, Department of Pharmacovigilance, Kurt-Georg-Kiesinger-Allee 3, D-53175 Bonn, website: www.bfarm.de. By reporting side effects, you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine. 5. HOW TO STORE CELLUVISC? Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the single-dose container label and on the outer carton after "Exp". The expiry date refers to the last day of the month. Do not store above 25°C. Do not dispose of medicines in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer need. These measures will help protect the environment. 6. CONTENTS OF THE PACK AND OTHER INFORMATION What Celluvisc contains: The active ingredient is: Carmellose Sodium 10 mg/ml. The other ingredients are: Sodium Chloride, Sodium DL-Lactate, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Chloride Dihydrate, and Purified Water. The components of Celluvisc have been selected to match the composition of natural tear fluid. What Celluvisc looks like and the contents of the pack: Celluvisc is eye drops. It is a clear, colorless to pale yellow solution in a small transparent (bladder-like) container (known as a "single-dose container"). The single-dose container has a twist-off cap. Each single-dose container contains 0.4 ml of solution. Each pack contains 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 60 or 90 single-dose containers. Not all pack sizes may be marketed. The total dose should not be exceeded without consultation with a doctor or pharmacist. - How to apply: Place the medicine in the conjunctival sac of the affected eye. Tilt your head back for application. After instillation, slowly close the eye and press lightly with your finger on the tear duct between the nose and inner eyelid. Important information: - Observe an interval between applications if several eye drops/eye ointments are used. - Caution in case of allergy to binders (e.g. carboxymethylcellulose with the E number E 466)! - There may be interactions with other medicines. Therefore, inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medicines you are using, including non-prescription medicines, occasional use, or previous use.
